Even in Switzerland, many people do not always have it easy economically and are more or less dependent on state social assistance. Because this is lacking in Zimbabwe, the problems can become extremely acute, especially for older, single or frail women
Background
Although they have worked hard, they are often left with nothing but poverty, without a pension or state support. It gets even worse when illnesses and diseases are added to the mix. In Kariba, the situation is aggravated by the fact that many people live in
protected national parks. Their dwellings do not offer sufficient protection against wild animals. Where there are elephants, it is impossible to grow vegetables, fruit or maize for personal use
without strong, electrically protected fences. Trees are plundered by monkeys and baboons. Elderly, single or disabled women are completely dependent on support. They lack the most basic necessities of
daily life and often even go hungry. Inflation is now so high that even the basic necessities of life have become unaffordable.
Process / Procedure
Unfortunately, there are no good concepts for helping people to help themselves in such situations. PfAH therefore uses part of the donations for direct aid to those affected. In cooperation with local contact points, a list of 30 particularly hard-hit women has been drawn up. Food parcels are provided for them. These include basic foodstuffs such as maize flour for sadza (white maize), flour for bread, dry beans, oil, sugar, salt, milk powder
and for daily needs, soap and other hygiene products. These aid packages could then be collected.
Conclusion
The women concerned could see how relieved they were to be able to get by without stress, at least for the foreseeable future. It is important for PfAH that this emergency aid can continue to be provided. We are urgently dependent on donations for this.
